Inspiration & influences
David Moreno's sculptures
Relevance to my practice:
I am drawn to the way Moreno brings line drawings into the 3D world. When I saw this work, I thought it would be great to go back to my sewing machine; working with thread to bring the sketch quality of my computer models back to life. I know the audience likes to see the artists' hand present, and I would like to bring a similar quality to the work I show my viewers: something more tangible.
Nic Clear's underground city, Chthonopolis
Relevance to my practice:
I adore a good science fiction read. What I appreciate about Clear's work is the development of the backstory. The work presents a utopic/dystopic paradox which has been a fascination of mine throughout my video projects this semester: Infinity Island and Cucumber Glow. I try to imagine the impending doom that is often highlighted in our society, as an opportunity to create new forms of artwork.
Rafal Barnas' ArchiPaper
Description:
"ArchiPaper is a non-commercial, experimental, short animation that tells a story about architecture in an unconventional way. Physical model of a house has been transformed into an image that teems with life, creating a leisurely-paced, surrealist story immersed in an world built solely out of paper elements." (https://filmfreeway.com/ArchiPaper)
Relevance to my practice:
Parallels that I see between Barnas' work and my own are: surrealist and experimental subject matter combined with unconventional use of material.
I am proposing that working with a greenscreen could be the next way of placing myself or my audience within my work. It would be amazing to collaborate with other artists who situate themselves between reality and dreams/ architecture and art.
Cinta Vidal i Agullo's Viewpoints
Description:
"With these un-gravity constructions, I want to show that we live in one world, but we live in it in very different ways – playing with everyday objects and spaces, placed in impossible ways to express that many times, the inner dimension of each one of us does not match the mental structures of those around us. The architectural spaces and day-to-day objects are part of a metaphor of how difficult it is to fit everything that shapes our daily space: our relationships, work, ambitions, and dreams."

Relevance to my practice:
Cinta Vidal i Agullo and I share a mutual inspiration (from what I can see) with MC Escher's gravity-defying artworks. I am intrigued by how she expresses this idea of living together, but apart in her work. I recently applied to a group show at the Glenbow Museum called Project Projekt, but ultimately I was not chosen to exhibit my work. Despite this, what I meant to portray through my own work called Community Pool was this irony in having so much to share, but no one to share it with throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. Cinta Vidal has an eloquent way of communicating with the audience that finding balance as an artist can be an arduous task. She has also been involved in painting large-scale murals lately, which is something that I have only explored digitally. When I look at her work, I see a lot of room for my personal growth.
